Oxford
I was genuinely disappointed with Oxford.
I wanted to see the colleges that make up the University, especially some of the more famous ones, like Christ College, and All Soul’s.
Sadly, none of the colleges were open to the public. They all have large gates, manned by security, and you can’t even go in to look. It was truly disappointing.
I understand it more during the school year, when the colleges function as both dorm and classroom space, but we were there before classes started. No students, just tourists and some faculty.
I remember large tour groups coming through the UW all times of the year, including coming into a class in Kane Hall and watching part of the lecture. We had tourists coming through Greek Row taking pictures all the time. In the dorms, there are organized tours.
Maybe I’m just being American and applying my values to a European institution, but I don’t think so. Needless to say, I won’t be back to Oxford…
