Bastille Day

I realize you’re not supposed to call it that, but I am.
Words don’t express how crazy this day is in the Capitol. We rented an apartment with a view of the Eiffel Tower so we could enjoy the celebration without needing to be down in the crazy with every Parisian within a 30 mile radius.
We did stroll down to the tower to see the people before the concert started.
It was unbelievable.
The Eiffel Tower sits on the river side of a large park, called the Champs de Mars. This park stretches about 3/4 of a mile, and ends at the military college. It is as wide as a football field is long. It has dirt walking paths around the edge and through the middle.
We walked to the park on the college end. I was floored by the sheer number of people in the park. Every available (and some unavailable) space was covered with people. In the entire park, there was no place to walk. It was full. At the end under the Eiffel Tower there was a stage for the entertainment, and there were large trinatrons to display the show to everyone in the park. It was amazing. We marveled at the sight for a few minutes then went back to our apartment to watch the broadcast and the fireworks live.
Overall, a good start to the French leg of our trip.
